Population growing in Butler County’s suburbs

The population of Butler and Warren counties — and most of the communities in each — keeps growing, according to data released today by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Both counties saw population gains between 2010 and 2013, with Butler County growing by just under 1 percent and Warren County by 3 percent. Between 2000 and 2010 Butler grew by 10.6 percent and Warren grew by 34.3 percent.

Liberty Center adds sporting goods store as third anchor

LIBERTY TWP. —

Liberty Center’s third and final anchor will be a two-story Dick’s Sporting Goods.

The 80,000-square-foot store will be one of the largest Dick’s Sporting Goods locations in the Tri-state area, developer Steiner + Associates said Friday. It is the third and final anchor of the $350 million Liberty Center mixed-used project it is co-developing with Chicago-based Bucksbaum Retail Properties.

GE plans to put 1,400 jobs in Cincinnati area

CINCINNATI — The General Electric Co. plans to build a new U.S. global operations center in the Cincinnati area, bringing an expected 1,400 jobs to southwest Ohio.
The announcement was made Thursday by JobsOhio, the state's private job-creation agency.

Potential for six power plants to operate in Butler County

The Middletown Energy Center, located on Cincinnati Dayton Road, is expected to be operational in 2018 and pour $500 million into the local economy. Between 300 to 400 construction jobs will be created, and once the plant is operational, 25 to 30 full-time workers will be needed.

Plans by a Florida company to build a natural-gas fired power plant in Middletown would make for the sixth power plant running in Butler County, the Journal-News has found.

Wall Street moves in on distressed central Ohio rentals

On July 10, 2012, a California investment firm called American Homes 4 Rent paid $903,019 for 10 homes that had been foreclosed on in new subdivisions ringing Columbus.    

With that purchase, central Ohio’s home-rental landscape changed.     

Suddenly, Wall Street became a player in the largely mom-and-pop, homegrown industry of rental homes.
